Oregon Food Stamps Income Limits 2024

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as the Food Stamp Program, is administered by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in the state of Oregon. The main objective of this program is to provide food benefits, access to healthy diets, and education on food preparation and nutrition to low-income families in the state of Oregon. In which eligible families are given a card, known as EBT card, similar to an ATM card, to purchase eligible food at retail food stores authorized under the program.

Oregon Food Stamps Program Age Limit Changes After January 2024

The maximum age for people required to meet SNAP work requirements is increasing.

  • As of January 1, 2024, people who are age 18 through 52 without a child under age 18 on their SNAP case will be required to meet work requirements in Oregon if they live in an area with SNAP time limits. Many people are exempt from the requirements. 
  • Congress increased the age range for people needing to meet work requirements for SNAP. The age used to go up to 49. Starting January 1, 2024 the age will increase to 52. 
  • We want to help you keep your food benefits. Contact the ABAWD Team using the information below to see if you are exempt or how to meet the work requirements. 
  • If you lost your SNAP benefits because you did not complete work requirements, please contact us after January 1, 2024 to see if you are eligible to start receiving SNAP benefits again. Starting January 1, 2024, 31 counties and all Tribal areas in Oregon will have a waiver for work requirements.

If there are more than eight in a household, add $6,682 per additional person. Also you should always check with the appropriate managing agency to ensure the most accurate guidelines.

Who is eligible for Oregon Food Stamps Program

The Oregon Food Stamps Program is for individuals and families who:

  • Is a native of the state of Oregon.
  • Meet income guidelines, ​your house, car or money in the bank usually don't count towards your eligibility,
  • ​If you are 18 to 52 years old and with able-bodied adult without dependents (ABAWD) status, there may be a time limit on how long you can receive SNAP benefits.

Eligibility for College and Higher Education Students

​Students ages 18 to 49 enrolled more than half-time in higher education are typically eligible for SNAP only if the student meets a certain condition. Higher education may include colleges, universities, trade and technical schools. The institution the student is attending decides what is considered 'half-time' enrolment.

In the state of Oregon, there are special reasons why higher education students are exempt -

  • Working more than 20 hours per week or being self-employed (includes internships, externships, graduate assistantships, and graduate fellowships)
  • Participating in federal or state funded work study
  • Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF)
  • receiving unemployment compensation
  • In school due to employer-sponsored training
  • Participation in employment department training program
  • Enroll in a program or course that will lead to employment
  • Responsible for the care of a child under the age of 6 in a one- or two-parent household
  • Responsible for the care of a child ages 6 to 12 in a one- or two-parent household, and ODHS has determined that the student is eligible to attend classes or work at least 20 hours a week There is not enough child care available.
